Drying in Hot Sun

If you are living in a tropical climate, it’s a boon for getting rid of the bugs. Wash all your clothes and bed related clothing in hot water and dry them in direct sunlight. Bugs cannot bear the hot temperatures and tend to die.

Steam

If you are not fortunate to live in a hot climate, you can use hot steam for getting rid of the bugs. Try to spray as much steam as possible onto the clothes which are being used. It helps in getting rid of bugs which are hiding. You can also do steam ironing of clothes. Bugs can’t bear such a temperature.

Vacuum Cleaner

The suction pressure of the vacuum cleaner can be used to get rid of bed bugs. Do not forget to target the hiding areas of the clothes and other areas. In this process the bugs and the eggs get eliminated.

Dryer

You can also use drier for getting rid of the bugs. The hot air from the drier gets rid of the bugs.

Insecticides

You can use some safe insecticides containing pyrethrins, canola oil, etc for spraying. They are harmless for us and are even safe for the children.

Scented Dryer Sheets

Bed bugs cannot live in the smell of scented dryer sheets. Add a layer of Scented Dryer Sheets in mattress and bed. The bed bugs run away from them.

Baking Soda

The drying property of baking soda can be used to get rid of the bugs. Take some baking soda and spread a small layer of the soda along the clothes and gaps. You can do this once in two days. The bugs run away.

Boric Acid powder

Boric Acid powder can be used to get rid of bed bugs. Spray some Boric Acid powder in the clothes and in the areas where bugs are found to live.

Bleaching Powder

Washing all your clothes and furniture with washing soda is a good remedy.

Repair Furniture

Often old furniture has the gaps and cracks, which serve as a home for the bed bugs. Make sure that your repair all such furniture such that no gaps are left for the bugs to live.

Mint
Bugs are wary of the smell of the mint leaves. This can be used by us for getting rid of them. Take some mint leaves and put them in your sleeping area. You can also place them in the cradles of the sleeping babies. The mint leaves act as repellent for the bed bugs. If you are comfortable, you can also rub a few leaves of mint on your skin.

Cayenne Pepper

The Cayenne Pepper, also called as Guinea spice, bird pepper, cow-horn pepper, aleva, etc act as repellents for bed bugs. Spray this powder where your suspect bed bugs are found to be hiding.

Lavender

Bed bugs cannot live in an environment where lavender smell is present. You may place a perfume of lavender or rub the leaves of lavender plants on clothes.

Rosemary

Similar to lavender, bed bugs cannot bear the rosemary smell. Use can use sprays of rosemary to get rid of bed bugs.

Eucalyptus

Apart from medicinal properties, Eucalyptus has the ability to get rid of bed bugs. You can spray few drops of the oil in the sleeping area.

You may also mix a few quantities of Eucalyptus, Rosemary and Lavender and apply the same for getting rid of bed bugs.
